Split personality

Last night I was just happily pinning away before Halloween festivities and I had to step back and laugh. Balmain and fly fishing. Not really two things that go well together. Girls who backpack and girls who go crazy over beautiful embellished jackets are not usually girls that get along. But I am that exception I guess... because I am both of those girls at once. I dream of the perfect mornings outside decked out in gear and hanging out by the river while Matt does a little fishing. And I dream of rooms full of couture clothes to go ga-ga over. I constantly give myself whiplash. Constantly.

Instead of fighting it like I have done in the past I have just learned to embrace it. It gives me something to occupy my mind and keep me inspired no matter what mood I am in. One day I could be in a kick-butt-let's-get-covered-in-dirt mood and some days I plan out patterns to do my own beading projects or spend all day sitting on the couch embroidering. Both are extremely empowering and inspiring for me. Why fight something like that?

Inspiration: Balmain

Besides spending a lot of time working as usual, I have found some time to do a little embroidery again. I was poking around the interwebs for some inspiration and obviously I ended up on Pinterest. I found this image of a Balmain dress. I can't get over it. Maybe I should take up beading...

Inspiration: WEÖRES 100 by Nora Demeczky

I've been focusing a lot of painting and embroidery lately but Nora Demeczky made my eyes pop out of my head with her WEÖRES 100 piece she designed. If you couldn't tell by now, I'm a pretty big fan of a cooler color palette, so obviously her piece made my eyes sing with joy. I love the way the pictures overlap and play with one another and the text interacting with the shapes in the images as well. I can't help but think this would be a great style for a catalog or fashion editorial... having the clothing stay the original color but the backgrounds be monochromatic? Eh? Love it!

Wednesday inspiration: Leandro Senna

Holy cow! HOLY COW! I saw this wondrous type project a month ago and I am really not sure why I haven't shared it until just now. Leandro Senna took the words from "Subterranean Homesick Blues' and turned it into a handmade type project.  This combines two of my favorite things: Bob Dylan and typography. I can't help but be giddy. Know what's even better? You can download the files and print them all out for your wall! Lovely! I told myself to only pick two phrases to show you... so here is five of them!

Friday Inspiration: Mara Hoffman

What has my right brain been crushing on lately??? Mara Hoffman. Yes, it is clothing. But take a look at those patterns! A lot of stuff I've been kicking out in my moleskines as of late have been patterns and this lady has been speaking to my heart. I came across her clothing last year as I longingly adored her chiffon maxi dress offered on Free People and since then, not only have I've been drooling over her clothes but what really gets me is the bold patterns. Love!
